Fumaric acid or fumarate is an organic (carbon-containing) acid. It is one of the most common acids found in nature. It is found in small amounts in a variety of plants and is essential to the respiration of animal and vegetable tissue. It acts as a key ingredient in the Krebs cycle where it plays a major role in generating energy in the form of ATP, the basic form of cellular energy.

When combined, L-carnitine and fumaric acid provide energizing and intensive mitochondrial support for the heart and skeletal muscles.
